In 1965 there were 198 members; in 1985, 295; in 1995, 295; in 2000, 287. The congregation has been affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba (1956-), the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1956-) and the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1956-). The language of worship is English.
The congregation began services in 1953, and formally organized in 1956. The first building was occupied in 1959, with a subsequent building program in 1963. John M. Schmidt is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by Mennonite Brethren Bible College and the South End Mennonite Brethren Church.
Pastoral leaders have been Dave Nikkel (1959-1960), J. J. Toews (1960-1962), John M. Schmidt (1962-1963), John Wall (1963-1973), Hugo Jantz (1974-1977), Herb Kopp (1979-1984), Dan Unrau (1985-1991), Gordon Stewart (interim 1992-1994), Calvin Bergen (1993- July 31, 2002), V. George Schillington (interim 2002- Dec 31, 2003), John Unger (Jan. 1, 2004-present).
The congregation was formerly located on Logan Ave. and known as Gospel Light Mission. It became known as Fort Rouge Mennonite Brethren in 1959 when new facilities were found, and as Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren with the change of location and facilities in 1963.
